CyberMonday.com Raises $75,000 to Date for Ray M. Greenly Scholarship Fund
Retailers to Feature Special Promotions on Site All Holiday Season
Washington, DC, December 5, 2006 – Though Cyber Monday has come and gone, its namesake web site will be live all holiday season long for consumers looking for online holiday promotions. Since its launch on November 20, 2006, www.CyberMonday.com has been visited by more than 500,000 consumers, according to Mall Networks, which powers the web site. Traffic to the site has been so substantial that Shop.org and Mall Networks have decided to keep CyberMonday.com active throughout the entire holiday season.
“The amount of interest in CyberMonday.com was unlike anything we have ever experienced in affiliate marketing for a brand new web site,” said Kimathi Marangu, Executive Vice President of Business Development, Mall Networks. “More than $2 million of transactions were processed through CyberMonday.com on Cyber Monday alone and interest remains strong as we continue to update the site with participation by even more leading retailers, free shipping offers and new money-saving deals. Clearly, the numbers prove that savvy online shoppers are taking advantage of this resource and spreading the word.”
In addition to providing consumers with a one-stop shop for online deals during the holiday season, CyberMonday.com was launched to raise money for a scholarship fund in memory of former Shop.org Vice President Ray Greenly. When shoppers make a purchase through the web site, retailers provide a percentage of that sale to Shop.org. To date, more than $75,000 has been raised for the Ray M. Greenly Scholarship Fund, which helps students pursuing careers in eCommerce.
“E-commerce is a new industry requiring new skill sets,” said Shop.org Executive Director Scott Silverman. “Shop.org created the Ray M. Greenly Scholarship Fund as a first step towards attracting college students to careers in e-commerce. The Scholarship Fund is also a way of honoring Ray’s service and remembering a man who brought a tremendous amount of vision and dedication to our industry.”
According to comScore Media Metrix, a Reston, Va.-based company that tracks Internet activity, CyberMonday.com had more than 300,000 visitors on Cyber Monday alone. In fact, the site was so busy that server capacity was tripled to accommodate the peak load. Additionally, Alexa Internet listed CyberMonday.com in the top ten position in its weekly ranking of online movers and shakers.
